Wednesday, November 1st, 1939: Done Deal: Wyse for Robinson
The Washington Senators swapped 21-year old minor league starting pitcher Hank Wyse for 20-year old minor league second baseman Jackie Robinson of the Indians after what Cleveland officials would only characterize as "difficult" negotiations.



Friday, September 1st, 1939: AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Jim Shilling's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Washington second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In August he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .349 with 10 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Shilling also scored 22 times and drove in 15 runs.

Shilling is hitting .320 in 1939 with 4 home runs, 27 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 78 hits in 244 at-bats and played in 55 games.
