There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Tommy Irwin, the Little River-Academy shortstop, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Southern League Player of the Week honors.
Irwin piled up 17 hits in 32 at-bats, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs while hitting .531.

 | Friday, April 11th, 1941: Mueller Pitches Laredo to Shutout Victory
In an outstanding mound performance, Les Mueller of the Laredo Mudfish scuttled the Little River-Academy Dukes 3-0 on a 4-hit shutout, ringing up 6 strikeouts and giving up 2 walks.
"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Little River-Academy manager said after the game.
"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."

Tony Lupien is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Little River-Academy first baseman joined that select company when the Southern League announced the results of June's voting.
Lupien totaled 42 hits, 14 walks, 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 14 runs scored last month to put together a .396 batting average and .471 on-base percentage.
Lupien on the season is batting .345 with 6 home runs. His totals include 43 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has played in 77 games.
