Sunday, April 13th, 1941: Newsome Sharp, Whitewashes Ghost Riders
It was a quiet day for the Durham Ghost Riders at Fire Ballpark today. It was Dick Newsome, the Decatur starting pitcher, who made all of the noise. He shut them out 16-0, allowing 5 hits while walking 1 and fanning 7.

Sunday, April 14th, 1940: Joe Unknown Out for Season
Durham reliever Joe Unknown could miss the remainder of the season because of a herniated disc. He exited yesterday's Little River-Academy game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Unknown would be out 11-12 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.

"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."

Monday, April 24th, 1939: Hodgin Selected Top Performer in SOL
His hard work paid off this week. The hardworking Ralph Hodgin was rewarded with the Southern League Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Durham Ghost Riders right fielder hit .550 while collecting 11 hits in 20 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs.

So far in 1939, Hodgin is batting .436 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs.
