He was a hard-hitting machine all week long. That's why Dave Philley of the Hill Country Village Saboteurs was named the Southern League Player of the Week.
For the week the 20-year-old left fielder batted .529 (9-17) with no home runs, 8 runs and 4 RBIs.

 | Monday, June 24th, 1940: 5-5 Day for McLeod
If the Hill Country Village Saboteurs know how best to pitch the Laredo left fielder Ralph McLeod they didn't tip their hand today. Instead McLeod showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Saboteurs pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Mudfish to a 8-3 triumph at Ballpark of Laredo.
He told BNN reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Hill Country Village skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that... blindfold him... and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
R. McLeod singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 7th.
This season McLeod is hitting .297 with 5 home runs.

There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Scat Metha, the Hill Country Village second baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Southern League Player of the Week honors.
Metha piled up 14 hits in 26 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs while hitting .538.
Thus far this year Metha has hit .307 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.
