| Breaking News | | Thursday, May 1st, 1941: Marion Crowned Top SOL Hitter in April
For a rookie just breaking in, Red Marion certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SOL Batter of the Month award for April.
The 27-year-old left fielder for the Decatur Fire hit .397 with 1 home run, 18 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

| Wednesday, April 16th, 1941: Shadows Chill Marion's Hot Streak
The Plano Shadows got more than a 9-8 victory over Decatur today at Fire Ballpark. They put an end to Red Marion's 21-game hitting spree by holding him without a hit in 4 at-bats. But it was no big deal to the Fire left fielder.
Marion seemed to feel more for his team than himself.
"I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit. I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today."
Marion has collected 15 hits for the Fire this year, 1 of them home runs. He has also netted 12 RBIs and scored 4 runs while batting .484. |
| Monday, April 14th, 1941: 20 Games in a Row for Marion
Decatur's Red Marion was 1-3 in the Fire 5-3 victory over the Plano Shadows. That stretched his hitting streak to 20 games.
In the clubhouse after the win, the 27-year-old Marion told reporters, "I'm in a groove right now, and I am trying to stay there by doing the same things over and over again. If I change something, it might bring me bad luck."
R. Marion grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
Marion has a .609 average and a .640 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 14 hits, 1 home run and driven in 12 runs. |
