Monday, April 28th, 1941: Patton 5-6 Against Pursuit
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.

In the Swordsmen 16-7 win over Orlando, Bill Patton was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Ballpark of Lakehurst.

"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close."

On his big day Patton delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

B. Patton singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.

So far this season Patton has gotten 22 hits in 66 at-bats for a .333 batting average with 5 home runs. His stats include 17 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has played in 16 games.
Wednesday, April 23rd, 1941: 5 Hits for Pursuit Wallaesa
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Orlando shortstop Jack Wallaesa said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the Nixon Mustangs at Pursuit Ballpark. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."

The Pursuit had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 8-2.

J. Wallaesa doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.

This year Wallaesa has batted at a .375 pace with 21 hits, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 9 times.
Monday, August 26th, 1940: Laredo Mudfish Capture Single-A Championship
"Anticipatin' celebratin'" was the Laredo clubhouse slogan for the Single-A Championship this year -- and celebrate they did, when they beat the Orlando Pursuit 3-2 in the series.

The Mudfish won the deciding game today 10-0 at Ballpark of Laredo for their 2nd Single-A Baseball crown.

During the 1940 regular season, they registered a 76-44 mark and finished first in the Southern League race.
