| Breaking News | | Tuesday, April 29th, 1941: Kracher Gets 5 Hits Joe Kracher was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over Wreckers Ballpark, collecting 5 hits, but wasn't able to win the game. He got his 15 minutes of fame and the Richmond Railcats got the 7-4 victory over the Wichita Wreckers.
"Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off of it because we lost the game," he expounded to the press after the game.
After the first three hits, everybody's in the ballpark was drawn to him each time Kracher stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Wichita catcher said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for high average is to relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't." That's exactly what he did today as Kracher finished the game with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
J. Kracher singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season Kracher has delivered 21 hits in 72 at-bats for a .292 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .350 clip and his totals also include 7 RBIs and 12 runs scored. This year Kracher has played in 16 games. | | Thursday, April 10th, 1941: Unknown Hurt, Out for Year Doctors in Wichita said Joe Unknown may not play anymore this year. The Wreckers starting pitcher received bone chips in his elbow during a game against the Walkertown Mites and will be out for at least 7-8 months. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season.
| | Friday, July 5th, 1940: Jumonville Belts 5 Hits George Jumonville had an answer for everything the Wichita Wreckers threw him today in the Lincoln 12-2 triumph at Rainbows Stadium. He made good contact 5 times and 5 times he drilled the ball for a base hit.
The Lincoln shortstop went 5 for 6 in the game to put his name in the record book.
Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Jumonville said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."
G. Jumonville singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
