Thursday, May 1st, 1941: Lade Is AMA's Best Pitcher in April
There's something about a young rookie winning the American Association Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Doyle Lade, a 20-year-old starter for the Paradise Springers.

In April, he topped off the month with a 4-0 mark and 1.89 ERA in 4 starts, tossed 33.1 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing teams to a .197 average.

Friday, August 16th, 1940: Osborne Sizzles, Paradise Fizzles
The Springers manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Randolph Thunderclouds 2-0.

"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.

Wayne Osborne blanked them on 3 hits with 2 walks and no strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Osborne said.

"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

In 1940 Osborne has posted a record of 10 wins and 16 losses with a 3.63 ERA. He has appeared in 34 games and struck out 38 in 220.2 innings.

Monday, July 22nd, 1940: Week's Premier Performer Honored by AMA
His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Joe Holden was rewarded with the American Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Paradise Springers catcher hit .583 while collecting 14 hits in 24 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

Presently Holden is batting .377 with 43 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 18 runs and scored 18 times.
