 | Monday, July 29th, 1940: Spindel on a Hot Streak, AMA Player of the Week
It was announced today that Raleigh catcher Hal Spindel has been acclaimed by the American Association as the Player of the Week for his outstanding play last week.
Spindel posted a .476 batting average as he collected 10 hits in 21 at-bats, no home runs and 3 RBIs.
Looking at his season stats, Spindel has compiled a .326 batting average and a .396 on-base percentage, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 53 runs.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Lefty Gomez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 31-year-old starter for Raleigh was named American Association Pitcher of the Month earlier today.
He collected 4 wins and no losses with 50 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.04 ERA in 57.1 innings of work.
