Saturday, August 24th, 1940: Snipes Defeat Bluebirds
The Henderson faithful were cheering in the streets and the Buffalo fans were crying in their beer -- The Snipes won the Double-A Championship. They clinched it by knocking off the Bluebirds 4-3 to take their 5th Double-A Baseball crown. Henderson took the series 3-1.

"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.

"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Bluebirds manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."

On the way to the Double-A Championship title Henderson compiled a 73-47 won-loss record and finished first in the American Association.

Monday, August 12th, 1940: McCarthy Selected Top Performer in AMA
This week's outstanding performer in the American Association was first baseman Johnny McCarthy of the Henderson Snipes.

He racked up a .419 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week McCarthy plastered 13 hits in 31 at-bats and 2 home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored 6 times.

So far this season, McCarthy has recorded a .319 batting average with 150 hits, 11 home runs, 79 RBIs, 65 runs scored and a .357 OBP.

Thursday, August 1st, 1940: AMA Top Pitcher Award for July to Weaver
Monte Weaver dazzled opponents on his way to the American Association Pitcher of the Month award for July.

Posting a 5-0 record and a 1.97 ERA, the Henderson Snipes starter held opposing hitters to a .204 batting average while striking out 16 in 50.1 innings and giving up 11 walks.

This season to date Weaver has a record of 15 wins and 8 losses with a 3.72 ERA, has appeared in 27 games and struck out 78 in 201 innings.
