| Breaking News |  | Monday, April 21st, 1941: Week's #1 Player Honored by AMA
19-year-old Cliff Mapes sent shock waves through Double-A Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American Association Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Mapes made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .444 average, 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 2 home runs and 11 RBI.
Where the Birmingham Lawbreakers right fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Mapes certainly made his mark last week.

 | Tuesday, July 30th, 1940: Streak Finally Over, Prichard Hitless
The Lawbreakers stopped Bob Prichard's 21-game hitting string today at Snipes Ballpark, but they didn't stop the Snipes. They fell to Henderson by a score of 4-3. Prichard didn't get a hit in 3 at-bats.
During the 1940 season Prichard has hit .327 with 3 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 84 games and scored 20 times.

 | Sunday, July 21st, 1940: Grove Magnificent in Birmingham Win
Orval Grove of the Paradise Springers was on fire against Birmingham. He shut them down 1-0 on 3 hits and no runs with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Grove said. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that."
This season Grove has compiled a 17-4 mark with a 2.11 ERA in 24 starts.
