Monday, August 5th, 1940: AMA Honors Norfolk Right Fielder
25-year-old Chuck Workman made a few Norfolk headlines during this past week as the rookie right fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and American Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 12 hits in 19 at-bats to put up a .632 average. Workman collected 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 6 runs.

Workman has collected 108 hits for the Tunas this year, 26 of them home runs. He has also netted 84 RBIs and scored 57 runs while batting .346.
Saturday, July 20th, 1940: Tunas Stop McCarthy at 21
After 21 games, Johnny McCarthy saw his hitting streak end when he went hitless in 3 at-bats. However, the Snipes won, which took some of the sting out of it. Henderson topped the Norfolk Tunas 8-2 at Snipes Ballpark.

"It was a good run," the first baseman said after the game. "It was bound to end at some point. I'm just glad we won the day it ended."

McCarthy is presently hitting at a .304 pace with 6 home runs, 54 RBIs and has scored 49 times.
