| Breaking News | | Friday, August 11th, 1939: McCarthy Goes 6-6 If the Toledo Bluegills know how best to pitch the Henderson first baseman Johnny McCarthy they didn't tip their hand today. Instead McCarthy showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Bluegills pitching, going 6 for 6 and helping the Snipes to a 16-11 triumph at Snipes Ballpark.
He told BNN reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Toledo skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that... blindfold him... and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
J. McCarthy hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 9th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.
In his season totals, McCarthy has 24 home runs, .351 BA, .369 OBP, 138 RBIs and 71 runs scored. He has played in 111 games. | | Sunday, July 23rd, 1939: 6 Hits for Bluegills Tresh Mike Tresh had an answer for everything the Birmingham Lawbreakers threw him today in the Toledo 12-8 triumph at Bluegills Ballpark.
