| | Saturday, August 24th, 1940: Snipes Defeat Bluebirds The Henderson faithful were cheering in the streets and the Buffalo fans were crying in their beer -- The Snipes won the Double-A Championship. They clinched it by knocking off the Bluebirds 4-3 to take their 5th Double-A Baseball crown. Henderson took the series 3-1.
"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.
"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Bluebirds manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."
On the way to the Double-A Championship title Henderson compiled a 73-47 won-loss record and finished first in the American Association. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 9-9, .500 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 8-4, .667 PCT | | Record on the road | 1-5, .167 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-1, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-5, .167 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-1, .750 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 6-8, .429 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 9-9, .500 PCT |
