Tuesday, July 23rd, 1940: 5 Hits for Sojourners Landrum
"Believe it or not," said Freeland second baseman Jesse Landrum, "they threw me some good pitches today."

That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Spitfires with a great 5-hit performance.

"He made it look easy," said the Colorado Springs manager, who saw his team fall to the Freeland Sojourners, 9-8. "Hats off to him!"

J. Landrum hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

This season Landrum is swinging the bat at a .287 rate with 64 hits in 223 at-bats. To date he has hit 2 home runs, scored 26 runs and driven in 27.
Monday, July 8th, 1940: Red-Hot Cox COL Player of the Week
So far in his young career, Billy Cox has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Colonial League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 20-year-old Freeland Sojourners third baseman hit at a torrid .440 clip as he collected 11 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

This year Cox is batting .288 with 12 home runs. He has scored 61 runs and driven in 49.
Wednesday, July 3rd, 1940: 5-5 Game for Tatum
During a player's career, there are days that stand out, and this day was definitely special! Tommy Tatum went 5 for 5 against the Freeland Sojourners at Field of the Thunderwolves and the Thunderwolves picked up a 8-3 victory.

He exclaimed, "What a day! We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!" The delighted center fielder was really enjoying the happiness of the moment in the press room.

"He was patient up there today," the San Bernardino skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. Tatum has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."

T. Tatum doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th and hit a solo-shot off S. Sundra in the 7th.

Tatum currently has a .277 batting average with 93 hits, 4 homers, 27 RBIs, 56 runs scored and a .361 OBP.
