| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 7th, 1940: Archer Whitewashes Spitfires Fred Archer of the Tacoma Gulls was quite impressive as he blanked the Colorado Springs Spitfires 1-0 at Ballpark of Tacoma. He crafted a 3-hit shutout and chalked up 3 strikeouts with 1 walk in the contest.

He shrugged off the performance after the game and said, "Sometimes the ball finds outfielders, today the ball found some holes."
L. Klein singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 8th.
