| Breaking News |  | Friday, September 6th, 1940: COL Gives Outstanding Pitcher Award
The Double-A Pitcher Award for 1940 has been presented and the Colonial League winner is Paul Gehrman of Dearborn.
"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Gehrman. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Advancers star told reporters.
Gehrman excelled with an impressive 19-9 record in 32 starts. In 249 innings he yielded 230 hits and 71 walks, while striking out 46 and compiling a fine 3.11 ERA.

 | Thursday, July 11th, 1940: Bearden Brilliant, Blanks Bluebirds
In a sharp 1-hit performance, Gene Bearden tossed the Dearborn Advancers to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Buffalo Bluebirds, fanning 3 and walking 2.
"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the Buffalo manager said in his postgame interview.
Bearden has posted a 7-4 record in 1940 with a 3.10 ERA. Teams are hitting .228 against him and he has rung up 62 strikeouts in 110.1 innings.

| Monday, July 1st, 1940: COL Pick for Top Pitcher in June is Gehrman
In June when the Dearborn manager wrote the name "Gehrman" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Paul Gehrman took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.
He dominated with a 5-2 mark and 1.64 ERA in 8 starts. The gifted Advancers star pitched 65.2 innings, fanned 12 and held opposing teams to a .211 average.
For his outstanding mound performance Gehrman was named the COL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
This season to date Gehrman has a record of 13 wins and 6 losses with a 2.99 ERA, has appeared in 21 games and struck out 31 in 165.1 innings.
