19-year-old Pete Castiglione sent shock waves through Double-A Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Colonial League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Castiglione made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .414 average, 12 hits in 29 at-bats, 4 home runs and 11 RBI.

Thursday, July 18th, 1940: Castiglione Goes 5-5 Against San Bernardino
On top of the Saint Petersburg hit parade today was Pete Castiglione. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Locomotives to a 11-0 victory over the San Bernardino Thunderwolves.

The sweet swinging third baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Thunderwolves wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

P. Castiglione singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off H. Erickson in the 8th.

In 1940 Castiglione has put up a .258 batting average with 57 hits, 5 home runs and 22 RBIs.
