Monday, April 21st, 1941: Gillenwater on Fire, Named Player of the Week
22-year-old Carden Gillenwater made a few San Bernardino headlines during this past week as the rookie left fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Colonial League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 11 hits in 23 at-bats to put up a .478 average. Gillenwater collected 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 6 runs.

Thursday, April 10th, 1941: Big Day for McNamara: Swats 5 Hits
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Buffalo third baseman Bob McNamara said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the San Bernardino Thunderwolves at Bluebirds Ballpark. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."

The Bluebirds had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 7-0.

B. McNamara singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 8th.

Monday, August 12th, 1940: 5-Hit Blitz by Buffalo's McNamara
5 hits in 6 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Bob McNamara of the Buffalo Bluebirds had a sensational 5-6 game against San Bernardino at Bluebirds Ballpark. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 14-3 shellacking of the Thunderwolves.

In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, skipper?"

B. McNamara singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

McNamara is swinging at a .282 pace on the year with 7 home runs, 45 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has played in 88 games.
