Sunday, September 8th, 1940: Wade Chosen CTN's Best Pitcher
Ben Wade of the Pine Island Cyclones is in the spotlight today. The relief ace was voted the top pitcher in the Continental League and will be presented the 1940 Single-A Pitcher Award.

He compiled a 4-11 record and an ERA of 3.76 in 76.2 innings with 79 strikeouts. Wade nailed down 11 saves in 18 save opportunities.
Thursday, August 1st, 1940: Byrne Chosen July's Best COL Hurler
There's something about a young rookie winning the Colonial League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Tommy Byrne, a 20-year-old starter for the Pine Island Cyclones.

In July, he topped off the month with a 6-1 mark and 1.94 ERA in 8 starts, tossed 55.2 innings, fanned 45 and held opposing teams to a .203 average.

In 33 starts this year Byrne has posted 16 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 222.1 innings, allowed 200 hits, struck out 162 and has a 3.00 ERA.
Monday, July 29th, 1940: Colonial League Names Top Player
The Colonial League made it official today: Steve Souchock is the Player of the Week.

He really stood out on the diamond this week with a .542 average to take home the award. The Pine Island left fielder went 13-24, drove in 7 runs, scored 4 times and hit 1 home run.

Thus far this season in 92 games Souchock is batting .325 with 10 home runs, 62 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has 114 hits in 351 at-bats.
