| Breaking News |  | Sunday, September 1st, 1940: Triple-A Championship Sweep to Riflemen Today the Riflemen fans broke out the brooms at Saint Paul Grounds and it worked -- Saint Paul swept the Glendale Storks 3-0 and are the 1940 Triple-A Baseball Triple-A Championship champions for the 2nd time in their history.
The Riflemen derailed Glendale 2-1 to rap up the title.
Saint Paul finished the season with a record of 75-56 and ranked first in the International League. |  | Monday, August 19th, 1940: Riggs Keeps Hit Streak Alive Chalk up another one for Findlay third baseman Lew Riggs. He now has hit in 20 straight games. Riggs went 2-for-4 today's game at Ballpark of Findlay. However, his club was defeated 11-0 by Glendale. L. Riggs flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th.
To date Riggs has chalked up a .352 average with 12 home runs, driven in 60 runs and scored 90 times. |  | Friday, August 2nd, 1940: Maglie Magnificent in Riverside Win Sal Maglie of Glendale easily handled the Riverside Talons, stopping them on 5 hits and chucking a complete-game 1-0 shutout.
"He really did a job on us," said the Riverside manager. "He had good command of his pitches. He changed speeds well and pretty much confused us. We never could zero in on him, but he certainly zeroed in on us."
Maglie said, "Everything was working for me. Throwing my breaking stuff over the plate was big."
He finished the game with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in a solid outing.
