| Breaking News | | Tuesday, July 23rd, 1940: Hudson Befuddles Riverside All went well for Sid Hudson of the Spokane Rascals as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Riverside Talons, limiting them to 4 hits while ringing up 7 strikeouts and surrendering 2 walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Hudson.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Riverside skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
This year Hudson has made 26 starts, thrown 186.2 innings, fanned 73 batters and walked 105. His won-lost record is 13-9 with a 2.75 ERA. | | Wednesday, July 17th, 1940: Blanton Fires Shutout in Rascals Victory The Spokane manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
He was talking about Cy Blanton, who had just hurled a fine 3-hit shutout over the Garland Knighthawks. He had no strikeouts and 1 walk in the Spokane 4-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the Garland manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
Season-to-date Blanton has rung up 12 wins and 12 losses in 26 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.14 and has fanned 73 batters in 210 innings. | | Thursday, June 27th, 1940: McCrabb Hurls Masterpiece Les McCrabb effectively shut down the Rascals today, blanking them 3-0 on 2 hits, ringing up 7 strikeouts and allowing no walks. The Knighthawks pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.
"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," McCrabb said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."
The Rascals skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."
In the current season in 17 starts, Les McCrabb has a record of 9-4 with 71 strikeouts in 130 innings and a 2.98 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 56-74, .431 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 20.5 GB | | Record at home | 33-32, .508 PCT | | Record on the road | 23-42, .354 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-7, .364 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-23, .477 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-9, .471 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 48-65, .425 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 12-13, .480 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in July | 10-16, .385 PCT | | Record in August | 8-14, .364 PCT |
