| Breaking News | | Thursday, August 22nd, 1940: Joe Unknown Injured, Out for Season Joe Unknown of the Bald Eagles just might have to call it quits for the season. The 24-year-old Reno right fielder received a possible season-ending injury against the Chesapeake Diamonds recently at Bald Eagles Stadium. Unknown suffered a torn labrum while throwing the ball. The Bald Eagles medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 7 months.
| | Monday, August 19th, 1940: Bald Eagles Hitless Against Moore The Glendale Winter Hawks were only hoping for a solid outing from Dee Moore, instead the 26-year-old pitcher tossed a no-hitter against the Reno Bald Eagles. Using a brilliant mix of offspeed pitches and fastballs, Moore kept the Reno hitters off balance all game long in the 4-0 victory at Winter Hawks Ballpark. The Glendale hurler fanned 2 and walked 5 in his record-making performance.
"I felt pretty good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Winter Hawks. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I was not nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
That something special got his name in the league record books.
In 24 starts this year Moore has recorded a 6-12 record and a 4.82 ERA. | | Tuesday, July 30th, 1940: Diamonds Stirnweiss Smacks 5 Hits 5 hits in 6 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Snuffy Stirnweiss of the Chesapeake Diamonds had a sensational 5-6 game against Reno at Diamonds Ballpark. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 12-11 shellacking of the Bald Eagles.
In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, skipper?"
S. Stirnweiss singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, hit an RBI double in the 9th and singled in the 11th.
Stirnweiss is hitting .254 this year with 2 home runs and 30 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .319, 34 walks and scored 54 times. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Hal Manders | strained rib cage muscle | 2 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 10-9, .526 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 2.5 GB | | Record at home | 5-4, .556 PCT | | Record on the road | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-2, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 8-7, .533 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 10-9, .526 PCT |
