Glendale hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."
| | Monday, August 19th, 1940: Bald Eagles Hitless Against Moore The Glendale Winter Hawks were only hoping for a solid outing from Dee Moore, instead the 26-year-old pitcher tossed a no-hitter against the Reno Bald Eagles. Using a brilliant mix of offspeed pitches and fastballs, Moore kept the Reno hitters off balance all game long in the 4-0 victory at Winter Hawks Ballpark. The Glendale hurler fanned 2 and walked 5 in his record-making performance.
"I felt pretty good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Winter Hawks. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I was not nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
That something special got his name in the league record books.
In 24 starts this year Moore has recorded a 6-12 record and a 4.82 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 11-9, .550 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 2.0 GB | | Record at home | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record on the road | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-2, .333 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-9, .550 PCT |
