Breaking News Monday, April 28th, 1941: Fleming Collects Player of the Week Award It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the International League, but last week Les Fleming of the Kalida Swans reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Fleming rocked opposing pitching for a .440 average (11-25), 2 home runs and 5 RBIs to come away with the award. To date this season Fleming is hitting .300 with 3 home runs. Monday, April 21st, 1941: International League Selects Week's Best Player Max Surkont drew on his youthful energy and pitching skill to win International League Player of the Week honors last week. The Kalida Swans pitcher registered 2 wins and no losses, 0.00 ERA and 8 strikeouts in 16 innings to sew up the award. The 18-year-old also held opposing hitters to 10 hits and a .182 batting average. Friday, April 18th, 1941: Surkont Hot, Diamonds Cold According to Max Surkont of the Kalida Swans, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 6-0 victory over Chesapeake. He blanked them on a 6-hitter, allowed 2 walks and had 3 strikeouts.
