Steve Peek of the Louisville Centurions whitewashed the Saint Paul Riflemen 8-0 in a complete-game win, limiting them to 3 hits while chalking up 5 strikeouts and giving up 2 walks.

Talking to BNN writers after the game, his manager said, "He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys. Steve is pretty poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff."

To this point in the season Peek has 2 wins and 3 losses and a 2.41 ERA.

Oris Hockett is respected by most Louisville Centurions fans for his no-frills style of play. The 30-year-old center fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the International League Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .367 average (11-30) with 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

This year Hockett has socked 169 hits in 505 at-bats for a .335 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .386 pace and his totals also include 67 RBIs and 79 runs scored.
Tuesday, August 6th, 1940: Olsen Fires Shutout in Crossbows Victory
Vern Olsen put a hex on Louisville in a sparkling 4-0 shutout performance, mesmerizing them on a 2-hit gem.

"I feel good physically," he said. "Everything's comfortable. You should pitch well when that's the case."

It was anything but comfortable for Louisville.

"Olsen used his changeup very well, very effectively," the opposing manager said. "He threw it in hitter's counts."

The Huntington Beach Crossbows hurler fanned 6 and walked 0.

Olsen has made no relief appearances this year and notched no saves. To date in 250.1 innings he has a 10-15 record, 3.02 ERA with 130 strikeouts and 106 walks.
