Friday, September 29th, 1939: Musial Hits .382 to Earn NL Crown
The top hitter in the National League in 1939 was 18-year-old Stan Musial, the standout Philadelphia (N) right fielder. He copped the league batting crown with a .382 batting average. Musial also piled up 30 home runs and 107 RBIs and scored 122 runs while playing in 143 games.
Monday, September 18th, 1939: Super Swinger Snags NL Player of the Week
At the age of 29, Hersh Martin might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Philadelphia (N) left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the National League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 15 hits in 25 at-bats, no home runs and 5 RBIs last week in 7 games.

In 1939 Martin is currently batting .296 with 1 home run and 47 RBIs. In 133 games he has reached base at a .362 rate and scored 65 runs to date.
Friday, September 1st, 1939: August's Best Starter Named in NL
Carl Doyle took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the National League Pitcher of the Month award for August.

The 27-year-old Phillies starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 2 starts. He has fanned 21 batters in 30.2 innings and sports a 0.88 ERA.

In 1939, Doyle has chalked up 6 wins and 1 loss in 2 starts with 32 strikeouts in 53.1 innings and a 1.18 ERA.
