| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, September 20th, 1939: Star SS Signs Extension with New York (N) New York (N) fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Bill Knickerbocker won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 2-year extension at a pay rate of $22,500 per annum.
Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, New York (N) officials had to keep Knickerbocker from jumping ship.

Boston (N) starter Schoolboy Rowe tamed the New York (N) Giants 5-0 with a 4-hit shutout, finishing the game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Rowe said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
