Wednesday, September 20th, 1939: Star SS Signs Extension with New York (N)
New York (N) fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Bill Knickerbocker won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 2-year extension at a pay rate of $22,500 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, New York (N) officials had to keep Knickerbocker from jumping ship.

To date this year Knickerbocker is batting .298 with 5 home runs.
Monday, September 18th, 1939: Braves Shut out Giants, Rowe Winner
"I hope we miss him next time," the New York (N) manager said. "Rowe certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."

Boston (N) starter Schoolboy Rowe tamed the New York (N) Giants 5-0 with a 4-hit shutout, finishing the game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a sharp outing.

"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Rowe said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."

This season Rowe has fanned 117 in 272.2 innings and collected a 21-11 record with a 3.10 ERA.
Friday, September 15th, 1939: Lanning Pitches New York (N) to Shutout Victory
Johnny Lanning had an impressive outing today. He hurled the New York (N) Giants to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Chicago (N) Cubs, yielding 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.

"He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the Chicago (N) skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."

In 36 starts this season Lanning has notched a 9-18 record and a 4.31 ERA.
