| Breaking News | | Monday, September 18th, 1939: Braves Shut out Giants, Rowe Winner "I hope we miss him next time," the New York (N) manager said. "Rowe certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
Boston (N) starter Schoolboy Rowe tamed the New York (N) Giants 5-0 with a 4-hit shutout, finishing the game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Rowe said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
This season Rowe has fanned 117 in 272.2 innings and collected a 21-11 record with a 3.10 ERA. | | Friday, September 15th, 1939: Best Hurler Award Presented by PCL The Triple-A Pitcher Award for 1939 has been presented and the Pacific Coast League winner is Max Butcher of Boston (N).

Butcher excelled with an impressive 21-11 record in 41 starts. In 266.2 innings he yielded 270 hits and 65 walks, while striking out 42 and compiling a fine 3.41 ERA. | | Monday, September 11th, 1939: Number 2000 for Ott Mel Ott started out as a baby-faced rookie many seasons ago. Yesterday at Wrigley Field the Chicago (N) veteran joined the 2000-hit club. Ott achieved that milestone with a 4-for-5 day in the Cubs 9-6 win over the Boston (N) Braves.
He spoke to reporters in the clubhouse after the game and said, "Looking at the list of all the great players who have done this is humbling. It is a great honor to be among them."
During his career Ott has chalked up 2000 hits and a .312 average with 289 home runs and 1116 RBIs. | | | Pitching Staff | | Role | Throws | Pitcher | W | L | SV | ERA | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 85-69, .552 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 6.0 GB | | Record at home | 44-33, .571 PCT | | Record on the road | 41-36, .532 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-6, .455 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 19-20, .487 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 26-25, .510 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 59-44, .573 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 12-4, .750 PCT | | Record in May | 21-8, .724 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in July | 12-14, .462 PCT | | Record in August | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in September | 12-14, .462 PCT |
