Thursday, June 23rd, 1938: Myatt 5-6 for Red Sox
Who needs batting practice? George Myatt of Boston (A) apparently doesn't as he battered New York (A) with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 11-2 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 6 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

G. Myatt singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

In his 1938 season totals, Myatt has 1 home run, .316 BA, .385 OBP, 27 RBIs and 51 runs scored.
Wednesday, June 15th, 1938: Smith Razor-Sharp, Shuts Out Detroit
Hilton Smith of the Boston (A) Red Sox just toyed with the Detroit Tigers today, blanking them 4-0. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 5-hit shutout with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Smith said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."

One of his teammates said it was easy to play behind him today. "It was like he's just playing with the hitters and doing whatever he wanted to do."

So far this season Smith has compiled a 8-6 record with a 4.51 ERA.
Tuesday, June 14th, 1938: Blanton Holds Indians Scoreless
An efficient outing for Cy Blanton usually means a win for Boston (A). Today was no exception, as the 29-year-old starter held Cleveland to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 3 and gave up 4 hits in the 1-0 shutout.

In 1938 Blanton has posted a record of 4 wins and 8 losses with a 5.74 ERA. He has appeared in 13 games and struck out 45 in 106.2 innings.
