Single-A Baseball News Article | | | Thursday, August 11th, 1938: Dedeaux Hits for the Cycle Getting 5 hits in a game is no easy feat, but hitting for the cycle is much more rare. Rod Dedeaux was on fire today, going 5 for 5 and hitting for the cycle against Nixon.
His batting escapade sparked the Richmond Railcats to a 6-5 victory over the Mustangs.
The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits, and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power, and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed on the basepaths and a favorable fall of the ball.
He told reporters after the game, "It just happened. Must have been fate or something...you can't plan this. I was more concerned with winning the game."
R. Dedeaux singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, tripled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 10th.
So far in 1938 Dedeaux has hit .321 with 7 home runs and 59 RBIs. He has played in 106 games and scored 47 times. | |
