Friday, May 12th, 1939: Super Swinger -- Hershberger Slams 5 Hits
If the Toledo Bluegills know how best to pitch the Paradise catcher Willard Hershberger they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Hershberger showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Bluegills pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Springers to a 7-1 triumph at Springers Ballpark.

He told BNN reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."

The Toledo skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that... blindfold him... and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."

W. Hershberger singled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 8th.

Posting a .437 batting average to date, Hershberger has 1 home run and 17 RBIs.
