The 27-year-old right fielder put up a .375 average and a .431 on-base percentage, piling up 140 hits, 23 doubles, 7 triples, 12 home runs, 76 RBIs and 55 runs scored. |  | Friday, September 6th, 1940: Double-A Pitcher Award Presented to Garland Star The Garland clubhouse staff referred to him as "the kid" this season. Next year Orval Grove will have to have a new nickname. He earned it after winning the 1940 American Association Double-A Pitcher Award.
Grove made 26 starts this year, winning 17 and losing 4. He threw 211.1 innings, fanned 157, allowed 166 hits and 46 walks, while holding opposing teams to a .216 average as he logged an impressive 2.13 ERA. | |
