Triple-A Baseball News Article | |  | Saturday, May 18th, 1940: Blanton Baffles Glendale Cy Blanton of the Spokane Rascals was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Glendale Storks with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 4-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Glendale skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Spokane hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
Blanton told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
On his stats sheet this season Blanton shows a 7-4 record, 12 starts, 93.2 innings, 28 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA. | |
