 | Monday, April 22nd, 1940: Riflemen Dean Has 16 Ks Dizzy Dean of the Saint Paul Riflemen really put on a pitching clinic today at Saint Paul Grounds as he struck out 16 Glendale Winter Hawks in a 3-1 victory. Dean was simply magnificent as he held the Winter Hawks to 7 hits and had 1 walk in the game. "My fastball was okay," Dean said, "but my breaking stuff really hurt them. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game." When asked about Dean's performance, the Riflemen manager shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was pretty good out there today. He was dominating today." So far this season Dean has a 4-0 record with a 1.38 ERA. |
