Triple-A Baseball News Article | | | Tuesday, August 1st, 1939: 5-5 Day for Johnson If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Billy Johnson showed how it's done as he went 5 for 5 against the Louisville Centurions and helped the Saint Paul Riflemen beat them 15-3.
The manager for the Centurions told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Johnson keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
B. Johnson hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
In this current campaign Johnson is hitting at a .320 clip with 8 home runs and 54 RBIs. | |
