It's an exciting day in Major League Baseball, as the 1939 first-year player draft is held today. The first five picks go to Pittsburgh, Boston (A), Cleveland, St. Louis (A) and New York (N). BNN has scouted the class and thinks these ten players are the best available this year:


1. Al Javery, 21 year-old reliever out of college.
2. Jack Hallett, 24 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
3. Yank Terry, 28 year-old reliever out of college.
4. Monte Irvin, 20 year-old left fielder out of college.
5. Jackie Robinson, 20 year-old second baseman out of college.
6. Warren Spahn, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
7. Tiny Bonham, 26 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
8. Hank Wyse, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
9. Orval Grove, 20 year-old reliever out of college.
10. Larry Jansen, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
