 | Friday, September 1st, 1939: American League Picks August's Best Batter When Joe Gordon stepped up to the plate in August, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the American League Batter of the Month award. The young Detroit second baseman posted a .413 batting average with 10 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Gordon also worked pitchers for 14 walks to post a .472 on-base percentage. Gordon is presently hitting at a .273 pace with 20 home runs and 93 RBIs. He has played in 123 games and scored 77 times. |
