 | Tuesday, August 1st, 1939: NL Selects Rookie Star of the Month A boyish Tommy Holmes emerged as the latest National League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cincinnati deserved the honor, batting .316 with 2 home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Holmes enjoy the limelight. This season Holmes is batting .301 with 106 hits, 6 home runs, 45 RBIs, .348 OBP and has scored 51 runs. |
