Monday, July 31st, 1939: Medwick on Fire, Named Player of the Week
There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Joe Medwick, the Philadelphia (A) center fielder, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the American League Player of the Week honors.

Medwick piled up 15 hits in 27 at-bats, 2 home runs and 8 RBIs while hitting .556.

Thus far this season Medwick has hit .348 with 17 home runs, 98 RBIs and scored 74 times.
